Cognitive Dissonance
by LexIsFree inthe cognitive dissonance amongst jws has never been more obvious to me then what i just experience in the last 5 min.
long story short i had a phone conversation w/my mom about some things and i mentioned to her to look up what has been going on with their beloved organization in australia.
brother geoffrey jackson of the holy governing body was caught lying numerous times about several subjects including disassociations & shunning.

Some years ago when I first started searching the internet and found out the TTATT I couldn't wait to show my mum. I showed her Russell's pyramid grave, she said "his family could have done that after he died". I found The Harp of God by Rutherford in a charity shop, on the front it says 'Millions Now Living Will Never Die'! I was excited at finding this. I read some stuff to her from it such as the prophets being resurrected to the earth in 1925 (in California)! I asked her if she wanted to read the book, thinking she would be really interested in it, but no, she acted like it was written by apostates! I showed her pictures of Beth Sarim and told her it was built for the prophets to live in when they were resurrected, but in the meantime Rutherford lived in it. I showed her pictures of the cars Rutherford was driving round in during the depression. I showed her many other things; nothing. She didn't want to know. She wanted to stay in her bubble.
I was angry and frustrated for a long time that she wouldn't see the 'real truth' but finally had to give up and resign myself to the fact that she will never wake up. She doesn't want to and literally can't.
She is 85 now. We don't talk about it anymore. It is very hard for me to keep quiet about the child abuse etc. It would upset her and she wouldn't believe it anyway. With elderly relatives I think it's best to just leave them to believe what they believe.

Had to go to a JW funeral yesterday.
by Crazyguy init's amazing how ones shun former witnesses or faders.
a couple of people said high to me that know i do not go but the rest no.
but the main reason i post is how ridiculous the funeral talk was.

I agree that they (the witnesses) use a funeral to preach to the relatives who are not witnesses. Also practically everything that is said about the deceased person is regarding their life as a witness. How they became a witness, how many hours they did in the ministry, how many people they brought into ' the truth'. (It was as if they didn't have a life before they became a witness.) Even when they were dying how they still managed to get out on ministry.
At a recent funeral I attended, the brother asked everyone to raise their hand if they had 'worked' with the sister on the ministry! Many put their hand up. I can't imagine what the 'wordly' relatives thought of this. I felt embarrassed.

My Husband Lies
by disillusioned 2 inmy husband went to the assembly at the weekend.
a few people asked about me, why didn't i go anymore?
he lied and told them "i don't know"!

Haven't thought of him as being protective of me for a long time, but maybe he just didn't want to talk about it. I haven't been to meetings for years though and he seems to get the same questions every year. One was from my own sister who I have told that I don't believe it anymore and why. She never rings me and I think she has chosen to forget what I told her. I guess I'm just having a moan about him. He hardly ever speaks to me and when he does its with contempt. Today was the first time he has spoken to me since the assembly (4 days) and that was what he said, just before he went out to the meeting.
Nobody rang me to ask me why and I don't think they will as nobody has for years.

My husband went to the Assembly at the weekend. A few people asked about me, why didn't I go anymore? He lied and told them "I don't know"! He says, "why don't you ring her and ask her yourself". I don't know why he answers this way as he knows exactly why I don't go anymore. We have had so many discussions/arguments about this that it would be impossible for him not to know. He blatantly lied and at the Assembly. -

Will the resurrected marry/have children?
by davidmitchell ini have just finished reading 'brock talon's' two books.
in one of them, entitled journey to god's house, pub.
he comments on how the wt's pictures of the post-armageddon world do not agree with their doctrines, namely that those who are physically resurrected will not marry/have children.

The possibility does not even enter their heads that there may not be an earthly resurrection at all! Even though there are no scriptures referring to a paradise earth. They have held on to Rutherford's teaching for all these years, I guess there's no going back now to what Russell (and most other religions) taught, that EVERYONE had a heavenly hope and not just a select few. -

Can You Really Become Inactive Instead of DA'ing and Keep Your Family
by truth-or-consequences inoz branch coordinator terrence o'brien opined a number of times at about 1:00:00 until about 1:15:00 of his testimony, that a dub does not need to da, they can become "inactive.".
i sent our beloved angus stewart my personal experience, as well as observations about official borg teachings.
(he replied in short order.).

My family still associate with me. They live in hope that I will return. I have just received the 'return to jehovah' booklet from my sister. They will not give up on me. My friends though are a different story. They have stopped socializing with me. Although if I saw them somewhere they would speak to me, just being friendly. -

Do video games cause bad behaviour in children?
by The Rebel inmy boy is 10 and has got very interested in pocamon cards.
( a game way to complicated for me to understand) but i've also noticed it's linked to a computer game, which seems harmless enough but i also noticed advertisements for more violent games appear.. i would value people's opinion on whether, you think video games cause bad behaviour in kids.
i should mention my kid says i limit his time on these games, much more than other children's parents, and i was thinking of reevaluating that rule.. thanks.. the rebel..

Just from personal experience. My two sons and sometimes my daughters have played and still play, video games. They started when they were very young, under ten. Now that they are grown they have a big collection of games. My eldest son who is 25 played them at his job as a games tester working at Sony.
I don't think the games have made any of my children violent. They have spent many happy hours with each other and their friends in my house playing games. They are all lovely, caring children, including their friends.
The only thing is as others have commented on. They were obsessed so much with the games they rarely played out and are not interested in sport. Although now they are grown up they go to the gym.
